At first I was a little surprised by how close I was to the center on the economic scale. The social scale didn't shock me too much, but wow. I'm a little too close to libertarian there. However, I'm still on the Democrat side. I resemble the Dalai Lama! Yay. I'm glad to have an idea of where I fit into things.
Frankly, I prefer the Democratic Party. Maybe I'm a treehugger...I believe the government should help people who need it, and the Democrats are more compassionate. I don't think the government should try to control people's personal lives. I support gay marriage, socialized healthcare, reproductive rights, and other things that Republicans generally do not. My parents are Democrats. Plus, I’m a female, Jewish, and pursuing a higher education. My political affiliations really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
The Republicans’ website made me giggle. Fear the Democrats and the United States’ Orwellian fate! That’s currently the only news on their site. Seriously, as a Democrat, I wish the Republicans could get their stuff together and perhaps work on contributing instead of letting Rush and Bill-o the Clown speak for them. Meanwhile, the Democrats have a lot of pictures and news about Obama, the president/rock star. It’s also a lot less bleak than the Republicans’ site…understandably. Both parties use lots of red, white, and blue, as well as pictures of the flag, stars, and other patriotic imagery. From now on, I plan to keep up with both of these sites for a better idea of what each party is thinking. It was highly amusing, after each presidential debate, to see the differences in opinion on who had “won.”
